Word is Born: New Beginnings in Aquarius

Aquarius: Life-Giving Words

In every mystical tradition there are sacred words, whether those are prayers, magical incantations, or mantras. A mantra is a phrase imbued with concentrated spiritual power that has the potential to connect the speaker to Source, whether that Source is a saint, prophet, guru, God, or the Truth. And this utterance, whether aloud or mentally, can alter the speaker’s reality.

As I wrote in my blog post about Jupiter in Capricorn, Capricorn’s Babylonian sea-goat signifies the primordial, undivided essence of Source, or life force. In Aquarius, this life force becomes manifested, symbolized by the Word in Genesis. Aquarius as the water-bearer is the force of expression or manifestation that pours outward from Capricorn’s oneness. Aquarius is a fixed sign, so the expression of the Word is constant and consistent; the water-bearer is a fountain which continues to flow.

In today’s world, the sign Aquarius is associated with creativity, ideas and invention, and a “humanitarian” bent. What could be more humanitarian than the impulse to create life?

January 24th, 2020: New Moon in Aquarius

January’s new moon in Aquarius offers an opportunity to renew our connection to our creative essence. Our own personal Truth. The long and short of what life means to you. This new moon invites us to own, express, and honor the life-giving source you feel inside of you, regardless of whether you believe that life arose in the big bang or out of the mouth of God.

Why is this important now?

Our world is on fire, people are imprisoned or displaced by the hundreds of millions, and the air crackles around us with fear and scarcity.

In 2020, we are being asked to show up on behalf of what Truth means to us. We are in a transition, where old ways of using power to control people and resources are clinging to life. New and different values that center our shared human connection and resources are struggling to come into expression and manifestation. Understanding where you want to put your voice, your ideas can help navigate life on earth at this time.

Aquarius Transits in 2020

After January’s new moon there are three big planetary moves in Aquarius throughout all of 2020:

  1. Saturn moves into Aquarius in late March and hovers around 1 Aquarius until July 2, when it moves backwards into Capricorn again.

  2. Saturn (the structure of our consensus reality) and Mars (our will) meet at 1 Aquarius on April 1.

  3. Saturn and Jupiter (the wisdom teacher) meet at 1 Aquarius on December 23.

The Chandra symbol for 1 Aquarius is A Double-Headed Calf. This year, we are being asked to confront the paradoxical nature of our reality. Which way do we choose, the old or the new, the self or the not-self? Or is there a way to transmute the paradox of opposing forces?

The Path: Sat Nam

In 2020, we are setting out on the Path to a new reality. What songs will we sing? What prayers will we say to guide our way? What mantras will we chant?

Kundalini yoga, a spiritual path derived from Sikhism, takes the Sanskrit mantra sat nam as the representation of life force in mantric form, meaning literally, truth is name, or Truth is our Identity. (Or Nomen et omen as we say in Latin, the name is the sign!) Sat nam connects us to our oneness with all that is.

Let us go forward on the journey connected to our ultimate truth.

I leave you with this song attributed to the Turkish Sufi culture hero Shah Hatai, “Gel güzel”

Gel güzel yola gidelim | Adı güzel Ali'm ile | Açlar doyar susuz kanar | Leblerinin balı ile

Come, let’s go on a beautiful journey | With the beautiful name of Ali | Hunger and thirst are fulfilled | with the lips’ sweetness
